I LOVE the atmosphere of a gym class, absolutely love it! The reality for me, if I want results and to be fit for the rest of my life, I cannot rely solely on going to the gym. And in the past 4 years, I can count how many times I have stepped foot in a gym. And I never take my kids. Do you know how frustrating it can be to load 4 kids up into a car? And then drive to a gym only to be interrupted there for poopy diapers, crying babies, and/or fighting kids? Ya, there is a reason I would rather just stay home and be interrupted here! haha! A LOT less work! But still work! Then there are missed naps, other errands to run, crabby kids, then the pass around cold...
I am not anti-gym, I promise!! The reason I am HUGE proponent for working out at home has nothing to do with hating the gym. It has everything to do with getting RESULTS!
Sure some people say they lack motivation to workout at home... but most of those people lack motivation to prioritize the gym also.
I like to focus LESS on all the details, and focus MORE on what will get me that healthy lifestyle I want to pass on to my kiddos. I want them to see that life isn't all about being fit. Fit is something we are, not all we do. Healthy is a way of life, not something you do after holidays to get back into your jeans.
Like brushing my teeth, I throw in a quick workout, then I am done, and I am a wife and mom. That is it. My errands include things for the family, and if I want some 'me' time, I get to do with it whatever I please, even if it includes a gym class, but not because I need to get in shape... I have that covered in my daily routine. The gym can now be a place I go when the kids are spending time with Daddy, and I am stepping out of the house to recollect myself for a bit! But it doesn't have to take over our lives.
Some people have made a wonderful habit of getting to the gym, and have incorporated it successfully into their lives. That is amazing! And something VERY hard to do! So for every person that is impressed with my ability to workout at home, I salute those that make it happen outside of the home and consistently!!
So why workout at home? To get fit and stay fit!! Studies show that for people that lose more than 30 pounds and keep it off, the majority of them workout at home. There are less excuses. The other common attribute these people have is support! When you have the right support system, you can do anything!
Til next time!
